History - Since 1919
1919 Lucien "Joe" Bisson starts L. Bisson, Inc. in Bath, Maine with a "Jigger" and a horse named "Dan".

1921 Bisson buys its first truck - a 1919 four-cylinder GMC. Bisson hauls coal, firewood, hay, building materials, household goods, and is a Railway Express Agent (REA) hauling goods to and from the rail terminals and Bath merchant ships.

1964 Richard and Francis Bisson (Lucien's sons) take the reins of the Bisson companies, then comprised of L. Bisson, Inc., an intrastate LTL freight carrier, an Agway agricultural products distributorship and Bisson Moving & Storage Company becoming an Agent for Bekins Van Lines in this year.

1975 Bisson builds and relocates to a new 30,000 SF warehouse constructed in West Bath, Maine, the first vaulted-household goods storage facility north of Boston.

1966 L. Bisson, Inc. begins hauling fuel oil and gasoline tankers within Maine.

1971 Bisson buys Haskell Transfer and builds a 10,000 SF warehouse in Augusta, Maine.

1976 Bisson opens its first Portland office.

1981 L. Bisson, Inc. obtains 48-state Interstate Operating Authority for General Commodity Freight, and Bisson Moving & Storage Co., obtains 48-state Interstate Operating Authority for Household Goods.

1984 Bisson purchases first Personal Computer (PC) to replace mainframe accounting system.

1985 Bisson builds a 20,000 SF warehouse in Scarborough, Maine

1986 Bisson buys Van Fleet Moving & Storage in Manchester, New Hampshire and obtains NH Intrastate Operating Authority.

1988 - Bisson launches first website at www.movebisson.com.

1990 Bisson is sold to Bob Cooper, a New York investment banker; at that time, Bisson had warehouses in Augusta, West Bath and Scarborough, Maine and Manchester New Hampshire.

1999 Bisson acquires Document Security, a small records retention company in Augusta, Maine.

2000 Bisson becomes an Agent for Atlas Van Lines; adopts O'Neill SQL barcode inventory system for its Document Security division.

2001 Bisson acquires I&R Associates, Inc., a leading office systems installation company in Portland, Maine creating Bisson-I&R Commercial Services, the largest commercial moving and installation company in Maine.

2002 Bisson builds a state-of-the-art 40,000 SF warehouse and records retention center in Westbrook, Maine; the company embarks on a company-wide cultural revitalization program called "Trust Accountability" emphasizing Trust, Personal Accountability, Empowerment and a new Brand Promise of "Service you can Trust from People who Care".

2003 Bisson Transportation, Bisson's truckload freight and freight brokerage arm, begins Yard Service operations at the Sappi Fine Papers Mill in Skowhegan, Maine.

2004 Bisson Transportation establishes its first satellite recruiting and sales office in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

2005 Bisson Transportation moves to an independent 30,000 SF warehouse in Lewiston, Maine and begins Yard Service operations at the International Paper Company Mill in Jay Maine.

2006 Bisson Transportation begins Yard Service operations at the New Page Mill in Rumford, Maine; 13,000 SF is added to Bisson's Westbrook warehouse in order to accommodate rapid growth in the company's record retention business.

Geographic Service Area
Since we are based in New England, in the early days Bisson Transportation focused on providing high quality service predominantly in the northeastern United States. As our base of customers grew, in response to the varied needs of each customer, we have learned to be flexible in terms of geographic service area. Today Bisson Transportation specializes in Truckload Freight and Special Products transportation throughout the Eastern United States, depending on the specific needs of each customer, and each project.
